This builds the searches; you run them. It does not scrape Google — partly because automated scraping breaks Google's terms, and mostly because a result you open yourself is the truthful one.
Why your own search results lie to you
Almost every local business owner checks their ranking the same way: they search their own service in their own browser, see themselves near the top, and conclude they are fine. That result is close to worthless, for four reasons.

A manual check that is actually reliable
- Open an incognito window. Signed out. Every time.
- Run the map search first. The map pack is where local intent converts; organic position matters less than most people assume.
- Record the businesses above you, not just your own number. "Fourth" is not useful. "Behind two chains and one competitor with 180 reviews" tells you what to do.
- Repeat from a different part of town. On a phone, physically. This is the check that reveals whether you rank or whether you were simply standing next to your own shop.
- Do it on the same day each month. Local results are volatile week to week; a single check is a snapshot, not a trend.
Five minutes, monthly. For one location this beats most paid rank tracking, because the failure mode of paid tracking is that nobody reads it.
What a manual check cannot tell you
The limit arrives quickly, and it arrives in the same three places every time.
- Where visibility stops. You rank first outside your shop and nowhere three miles away. A manual check cannot draw that boundary; a geo-grid can, because it runs the same search from dozens of points and colours the map.
- Whether anything changed. Without a stored history, every check is the first check. You cannot prove a fix worked.
- Client proof. "I checked and we look better" is not a report. A grid image comparing two months is.

Does this tool check my ranking automatically?
No, and that is deliberate. Automated scraping of Google results breaks Google's terms of service, and free scrapers usually return proxy results from the wrong location, which is worse than no data. This builds the correct searches and you run them yourself.
Why do I rank differently on my phone and my laptop?
Because your phone reports a precise location and your laptop usually reports an approximate one. Map results are recalculated per location, so the two devices are genuinely asking different questions.
How often should I check?
Monthly, on the same day, for one location. Weekly checking mostly measures normal volatility and leads to reacting to noise.
What is a geo-grid, exactly?
The same search run from a grid of points around your business — typically 5×5 or 7×7 — with each point coloured by your position there. It turns "we rank fourth" into a map showing where you are invisible.
Is there a free way to see the grid?
Most geo-grid tools offer a limited free scan. That is usually enough to find out whether you have a coverage problem at all, which is the question worth answering before paying for anything.
